American Guild of Organists
European Chapter

The American Guild of Organists is the world's largest association of organists, organ builders and lovers of the instrument. The European Chapter is a chapter unlike any other, since its members live on four continents, not in a single region. The idea for its founding originated with some American organists stationed in Europe with the armed forces; many of the founding members are still chapter members today. We have over 140 members from Australia to Finland and China to Montana, so that most of our activity takes place during one exciting week starting on Easter Monday at our legendary Spring Meeting - the best-kept secret since organ crawls were invented!

A message from the Dean,
Johan Hermans

Dear visitors to our site (and dear members too!)

A warm and exuberant welcome to the European Chapter's online abode! Within the tapestry of our membership, you'll find individuals spanning diverse nations across Europe, Canada, Australia, and several states in the USA. This mosaic of cultural richness makes our collective identity truly exceptional – an absolute marvel!

Given the far-reaching corners from which our members hail, our primary focus revolves around the eagerly anticipated annual week-long Spring Meeting, unfurling its splendors in a different European region each year. This bespoke Spring Meeting, meticulously orchestrated by one of our own members living in the region we visit, is a celebration of camaraderie, knowledge exchange, and cultural exploration. And, for those seeking an extra dash of enchantment, some years grace us with the additional allure of a shorter yet equally delightful Fall Meeting.
We have last year been able to celebrate (and it really was a celebration!) a splendid Spring Meeting in the Netherlands and are now looking forward to the upcoming one in the Helsinki.

To our cherished attendees from previous Spring Meetings, I eagerly anticipate the pleasure of meeting you again. And to those newly discovering our chapter, may perusing our website kindle a desire to become part of our vibrant and welcoming community!

Johan Hermans,
Chapter Dean

On 13 November 2024, the chapter lost a cherished friend, member, and integral part of the board. Barry Jordan (1957-2024) remains a treasured individual beloved and remembered by many of our membership. To read his obituary, please click here
